Creighton Prep Still On Top

Going into the last week of the season, Creighton Prep keeps a tight grip on the  No. 1 spot in  Hit News’ Top Ten Nebraska High School Football Team rankings.

The Junior Jays have held the No. 1 spot since the beginning of the season.  And they solidified their hold on the top spot with last Friday’s convincing win over a very good Bellevue West squad.

Sure! There is another 8-0 team in Nebraska that some think is the true No. 1, but for now–it looks like the Millard West Wildcats will have to prove that point in the playoffs.  However, even after the Class A playoffs are over, the debate over who is the real No. 1 team in Nebraska may not be settled.

McCook: The Best Nebraksa HS Football Team?

This year Class B’s McCook may truly be the best high school football team in the state!  I just wish that  we could see them play a Class A team to find out how good they really are.  If Elkhorn’s (7-2) success in Class A, after moving up this year from Class B, is any indication of how good Class B football really is–then an undefeated Class B Champion McCook would have a real good case in claiming to be 2008’s best Nebraska high school football team.

Working in McCook’s favor for claiming the best team in the state title is a Class A playoff bracket featuring at least a dozen teams that are capable of getting hot enough to make it to Lincoln and win the whole enchilada. It’s quite possible that this year’s Class A champion may have at least a blemish or two or three on their record.

Of course, the above scenario would mean that both–undefeated–Class A teams Creighton Prep and Millard West would have to lose somewhere along the way. Hmm!   Stranger things have happened.

If the Class A champion is not an undefeated team and Mcook continues its devastation of their opponents throughout the playoffs–they have every right to claim the mythical No.1 2008 Nebraska HS Football Team title–at least they would get our vote!

    Let the debate begin!
