Game 5

#11 Millard South VS #6 Elkhorn
Game 6

#3 Lincoln North Star (8-1)  VS  #14 Papillion-La Vista (5-4)

Game 5

This contest features two of the most surprising teams of 2008. Before the start of the season, I doubt too many Nebraska high school football fans thought that the Lincoln North Star  Navigators would finish the regular season with only one loss. Great  job by Navigators head coach Mark Waller and his staff!  And what about the Monarchs’ head coach Jeff Govier and his staff for getting their program back to its winning tradition.

The Monarchs will be led by the rushing of the quick and explosive senior RB Josh lopez (992 rushing yards) and the accurate arm of junior QB Jeff Weander (ranks 2nd in Nebraska Class A in total passing yards 1632) The Navigators will count on a spread offense led by dual-threat QB Joe Hartley and RB Tyrone Lewis as well as one of the state’s best defenses to win this match-up.

One thing for sure–the winner of this game will continue to be the surprise of the year.

Hartley is the key the Navigators’  offensive attack. He must limit  mistakes and convert on third downs. Their talented backfield will have to be productive. On defense the Navigators will have to stop a very good Monarch passing game. The first step in this process will be to get pressure on Jeff Weander. The Monarchs will lean on Jeff
Weander’s arm and the legs of Josh Lopez and the hands of one of the state’s top receivers JR Glenn Lewis (6′ 1, 165) to rack up the points. The Monarchs will have a hard time controlling the  talented athletes that run the Navigators’ spread offense, but Monarch players like D-lineman Josh Kage are going to have to step up their game to come out on top in this one.

#11 Millard South (6-3)  VS  #6 Elkhorn (7-2)

Game 6

Whew boy! Rematch! There are not a lot of good feelings between these two squads and there will be  a lot of pride on the line in this game.

The fourth game of the season saw the Antlers  upset the Patriots in a 28-21 brawl. That win  certified Elkhorn as a legitimate Class A force, in their very first year of competing in  Class A football.

Questions: (1) What went wrong for the preseason regionally ranked (as high as #15 ) Patriots? (2) Will the sensational speedster Ty Kildow suit up and play in this game? Rumor has it that he is just waiting on clearance from the doctor.

Head coaches Andy Means (Millard South) and Mark Wortman (Elkhorn) and their staffs will be burning the midnight oil to pull out all of their bags of tricks for this Halloween monster of a game.

Jr QB  Bronson Marsh has struggled this year without Kildow but he still has weapons galore with Vondrae Tostenson and Jordan Hale, who continues to have a very good senior year. They all must perform at their peak levels to win this gameThe Patriot defense should be ready for the Antlers this time, after watching the film and not underestimating their abilities. But being ready and executing are two different things–they must execute.   Elkhorn QB Jordan Poehling and RB Dan Eccles are the keys to the success of the Antlers offense. They will need to hit on all cylinders on Friday to beat the Patriots twice in one season. The defense must pressure Marsh and limit big plays by Hale and Tostenson. If Kildow plays–good luck.
