Metro Holiday Basketball Tournament Notes

Omaha Bryan 53 Papillion-La Vista 50

Bryan continues to struggle despite all that talent at their disposal.  Sophomore post up D. K.  Augustine, coming off the shelf since missing the team’s last game, scored 22 points and Ben Imig added15.  Galen Gullie, a sophomore stud who has scored in double digits in every game but Saturday’s, is one for everyone to keep their eyes on.

Bryan is still waiting for transfers Reith Jeich (Omaha Benson) and Tarir Gatouch (Omaha Gross) to become eligible. However, regardless of all Bryan ’s troubles in putting together their best rotation, they still managed to squeak by a—winless–Paipio team.

Papillion-La Vista South vs. Millard North

Papillion-La Vista South Sophomore Jalen Hueser, who is the son of the Titan’s head coach, scored 22 points in a win over Millard North. Hueser continues to keep the Titans in Action Forces’ Top 10 by leading a talented but inexperienced group of players.

Mustang  junior Mike Dentlinger continues to put up impressive numbers as he poured in 25 points. It’s the second time this season that Dentilinger has scored over twenty points in a game.

Central 65 Westside 61

The Eagles blew a 20 point halftime lead but managed to hang on when it counted, in a fourth quarter thriller. Four Central starters scored in double digits: sophomore Teddy Lampkin (16) Junior Deverell Biggs (13); senior guard Sean McGary (12) and Senior Denzell Cook (10).

Omaha Westside entered the game coming off an upset win over Bryan. The Warriors almost managed to come up with another improbable win as Willie Metoyer, an All- Metro RB, scored 12 points and seemed to will his team to victory through his hard aggressive play.

Burke 56 Millard West 44

Burke dominated Millard West 56-44 by dictating the style and tempo of the game from start to finish.

Sophomore point man Adonis Hill finally got out of coach Kenyon Sharp’s doghouse.  In the process, Hill received his first start and responded by leading the Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points. Hill dazzled the crowd with his great passes and his ability to set up teammates for easy baskets. Junior power forward Scottie Davis added 12 points— Davis has scored in double digits in every game this season.

Future Bright for Davis

Scottie Davis, who is first cousin to former Burke great and Nebraska star Jason Dourisseau, still managed to perform well despite being unable to practice all week long due to illness—his showing left no doubt that he is among the best  post players in the state. In my opinion:

Scottie Davis is the most technically sound post player in the state of Nebraska.”
